PSPVBA: GameBoy Advance Emulator for PSP v1.0.4

Hi All,

Here is a new version of PSPVBA the GameBoy Advance Emulator for PSP.

I would like to thanks again Tommydanger for his help !

What's new in version 1.0.4 :

- Emulator menu is now directly available on startup
- Add turbo modes, but it can result in graphic artefacts but you can win up to 20% !
(turbo modes don't work for all games)
- Add ARM tick average change option (can be used to increase speed)
- The file default.kbd (keyboard mapping) is now loaded on startup
- Screenshots are now save in BMP format instead of PNG (less memory consumming,
so it should not freeze your PSP).
- Many bug fix

How to use it ?

Have a look to the README.txt file !

Two binary versions (for 2.x and 1.5 FW) and sources are included in the zip archive.

This package is under GPL Copyright, read COPYING file for more information about it.

This emulator doesn't work with the Tiff exploit on 2.0, so please use the GTA exploit instead.

Merci beaucoup pour cet emulateur.
Je ne comprend pas bien à quoi correspon ARM ti...
Est-ce que tu pourrais m'expliquer afin de savoir le régler correctement?
Bravo pour ton travail, j'aurrais juste voulu savoir si c'était la derniere mise à jour à apporter un "léger" surplus de vitesse et si tu compte en faire d'autre pas forcément de suite mais dans le futur, merci d'avance.

i am very happy with your emulator.....you ve done a great job....the only little thing i would have to say is that i am testing it now and it seems that it doesnt loads roms larger than 8-9 mb....like pokemon green leaf 16mb..... can somebody tell me why...i have a 2.5 psp

ARM tick c'est le nombre de cycles moyens pour une instruction de processeur ARM (de la GameBoy). Par defaut je l'ai mis a 4, mais on peut soit le baisser un peu (genre 3) et dans ce cas, c'est comme si tu avais overclocké le processeur ARM, ou le passer a 5 si tu trouves que le processeur va trop vite ...

Pour les prochaines releases, je ne sais pas ... Sans doute bientot car il semble y avoir un probleme avec les grosses ROMs (probleme qui n'existait pas avant).

I've modified the memory allocation for ROM, RAM etc ... this might explain your problem. Does this rom runs with PSPVBA v1.0.3 ? If yes, i have to modify back the memory allocation

welll the only thing that worked before....was v1.0.2 and i was eagerly expecting v1.0.4 because i thought it would work...but meanwhile ive tried several other roms and they work great ...youre the bomb...

i can see a great speed increase...ive tried it with about 20 games...and except the big ones +10mb that give me a white screen with the psp shutting down they all work pretty good....keep up the good work...and one more thing....you are very very good...i havent seen anybody updating an emulator every 2-3 days...your progresss is amazing

i have a question that i think youre going to answer me tommorow because i think you must be pretty tired....can you tell me which are the roms that usually work....i mean size...the ones you have tested on....i really dont know which i should download...i know youll probably say that i have to try it on my own...but i want aless time wasting way

and one last thing...why did v1.0.1 didnt work on my psp 2.5...v 1.0.2 worked.....v1.0.3 didnt work and v1.0.4 worked...strange thing

hey zx-81, i have just one small request.ok pretty much all the DBZ game for this emulator works. except for one. its called DBZ buu's fury. u can play for about ten minutes then it says "this game cannot run on this hardware". the problem is that it doesnt work on your VBA port witch is 1.7.2. but heres the thing. it works on the older VBA pc version Visual boy andvance 1.1. is these some kind of code that u can take from v 1.1 and put it in yours? if u could do this it would MEAN ALOT. thanx

AWESOME WORK!!! this emulator is commin along so good its impressive. alls this emulator needs now is good sound then after that its pretty much one of the best emulators out there. i cant wait for the next release. i check this site daily. hey zx-81 do u think u can work on the sound a bit more? like do u think u can make the sound clear on the next release? like the real GBA sound? lol im just wonderin.

just a small suggestion. do u thing u could put an option on that alows the user to switch screen smoothing on and off? and better sound is always good

everything works fine for me, i have firmware 1.5 ive tried all the pokemon roms and 16mb roms and everything works fine for me.

This really is great work, I can now run Nightmare in Dreamland at playable speeds with the ARM tick at 5 and sound off. I know enough french to understand that the first comment was asking about this setting, but not enough to really understand your reply. Would you mind explaining it again in english? Also how exactly does the turbo function? With settings around 4-5 it is able to run at full speed but artifacting is really bad.

i think something is wrong with my psp 2.5...because i must have tried about 30 gba games...and the ones with 5-8 mb worked very well...the ones with 8-16....worked in the beginnning but then turned psp to black screen at some point of the game....and the ones with 16mb that give me a white screen.....could you tell me if its something about the psp or are the roms bad...because i have tried all of them on vba first on my pc...and they all owrked fine...but i am still happy with the ones that work....i waited so long for something like this to appear....great job

This emulator need a lot of memory to work, and on 2.5/2.6FW it may happens that there are not enough "good" memory block available. I've modified the rom/ram allocation in this version, using static buffer. But it seems no to be the best solution

On psp 2.x roms bigger then 16 megs dont work, you just get the white screen......Zx I am sure you can fix this prob soon

. I would say that more of a speed increase is much more important at this point then making sound better lol. But very nice work so far Zx....

Vu que le son n'est pas super bien émulé, peut etre pourrais-tu l'enlever pour augmenter la vitesse, sinon est-ce qu'il est possible à la place du son de jouer des music au format mp3 contenu dans le dossier music de la psp cela serait peut-etre plus avantageux, je ne sais pas, ce ne sont que des suggestions. Merci de me repondre.

Merci ZX-81 pour ton job sur cet émulateur. La scène PSP te doit bcp bcp et moi mon pied c'est les mumules sur ma PSP.

Je te place parmi mes codeurs préférés avec NJ, Ruka et la team de Yoyofr.

Vous vous féfoncezpour nous sortir des emule qui déchire MERCI MERCI.

Et si tu pouvais passer sur notre site http://mobiles.gx-mod.com pour nous transmettre l'info ca nous ferait plaisir. On a un forum PSP et il y une section devellopement dans ce forum. Passse ca me ferait superplaisir car c'est moi qui news la plupart de tes release.

It's very impressive how many improvement you did on this emulator in just few days! Thanks a lot for your great job!
I think that if you'll put your hands on a SNES emulator you could do a better job than other that did it till now (since SNES is less powerfull and less "resources eater" than GBA)

Screwing around with settings and frame skip along with the new mode, I have Legend Of Zelda-link to the past running at NEAR PERFECT speed. you can see the skipping, but its fast enough to able to beat a perfect game with. I'm telling you ZX I predict perfect speed within the next 2-4 updates, If you still choose to work on, wich I hope you do.
